Eight “gifted” American students from a New England prep school travel to Scotland for an academic exchange programme with a $10,000 prize at stake. Each is extraordinarily intelligent, and a few have “special abilities” that they do not fully understand and have not yet revealed. Arriving at a mysterious castle, they discover a series of calculated, deadly games await them, prepared by a clan of Vampire-like creatures.
